About the Journal

The scientific journal REFLECTIONS – Compendium of theory and business practice has been published since 2017. For the first 5 years, the frequency was four times a year, and from 2022, when the magazine switches to a new format, the frequency is twice a year. The magazine is published by the Department of Management at the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. Published contributions are reviewed by two independent experts.

The scientific journal REFLECTIONS – Compendium of theory and business practice brings, as is clear from its title, a theory proven by practice, or theory verified in practice. For the first 5 years, it focused primarily on the area of ​​business performance through the model of four balanced perspectives Balanced scorecard (BSC – financial perspective, customer perspective, perspective of internal business processes and perspective of learning and growth), which is a modern tool of strategic management from the nineties of the twentieth century, which in the zero years of the twenty-first century, it was expanded by the perspective of the business environment.

The journal brings scientific, professional and discussion articles and analytical studies in the field of economic theory, economic policy, management of public administration organizations, education, environmental management, circular economy, organizational culture, business management, marketing, information systems and technologies in management, banking, mathematical modeling and statistical methods, cross-sectional and sectoral economies, as well as regional and social development in the domestic and international environment. Also, profiles of prominent Slovak and world economists, reviews of theoretical and professional works and news from scientific life. The intention of the publisher of the journal is to create a space for authors from scientific research and educational institutions, as well as for authors from business practice, who are interested in sharing their research results, experiences, and observations, thereby contributing to the creation of new knowledge in the field of business management.

Open Access

The journal Reflections provides immediate open access to its content in accordance with the BOAI initiative. This means that all published articles are freely available online at no cost, without a time embargo and without the need for registration or a subscription, and users have the right to read, download, copy, distribute, and link to their full texts in accordance with the journal’s licence terms. The journal is published under a Creative Commons – Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY 4.0) licence, which allows for unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction provided that the original work and its authors are properly credited.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright to their contributions and grant the journal the right of first publication. All articles are published under an open access model and are available free of charge and without restriction. Contributions are licensed under the Creative Commons – Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY 4.0) licence, which allows for their free use, distribution, and adaptation (including for commercial purposes) provided that the author and source are properly cited, a link to the licence is provided, and any changes are indicated. The authors also declare that their contribution is original and does not infringe upon the rights of third parties.

Peer Review Process

The journal Reflections employs a double-blind peer review system to ensure the quality, originality, and academic rigor of published articles.

Each manuscript is first assessed by the editorial board for thematic relevance and basic academic standards; manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without undergoing the review process. Manuscripts are then evaluated by two independent expert reviewers, with the anonymity of both authors and reviewers maintained.

Based on the review reports, the editorial board decides whether to accept, accept with revisions, request revisions, or reject the manuscript. Authors are required to incorporate the reviewers’ comments. The average duration of the review process is eight weeks.

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

The journal Reflections strictly rejects any form of plagiarism and requires that all submitted manuscripts be original. Plagiarism is defined, in particular, as the use of another’s work without proper citation, whether it involves verbatim copying of text, paraphrasing without citing the source, or self-plagiarism.

All submitted manuscripts may be checked using plagiarism detection software. If plagiarism is confirmed during the review process, the manuscript will be rejected. If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the editorial board reserves the right to retract or correct the article.

Archiving and Long-Term Preservation Policy

The journal ensures the long-term availability and preservation of published articles in both digital and physical formats. All articles are freely available in open access on the journal’s website, accessible in the journal’s archive (from 2022 onward), and each article is assigned a permanent DOI (Digital Object Identifier) to ensure its persistent identification and discoverability. Electronic versions are archived in the journal’s online archive (from 2022 onward). Printed issues (up to and including 2021) are stored at the VERBUM — the publishing house of the Catholic University in Ružomberok and in the University Library of the Catholic University in Ružomberok, as well as through designated depository institutions in accordance with applicable legislation.

Self-Archiving Policy

Authors have the right to deposit and make available the published version of the article (publisher’s PDF) in institutional or subject-specific repositories immediately upon publication, without any time restrictions (no embargo). The condition is that the full bibliographic citation of the published article and its DOI identifier must be provided.

Publication Fees

The journal Reflections does not charge any fees for submission, peer review, processing, or publication of articles (no submission fees, no article processing charges – APC). Access to published articles is free for readers, with no registration or subscription required.
